AirBnb has become popular among travelers who wish to save money and prefer to stay in a more authentic and "homelike" place. I've stayed in a few AirBnb's in Rome and even more throughout Europe and always had excellent experiences. For others, the thought of staying in an actual home can be pretty daunting, but I'm here to assure you that there is nothing to worry about. The process is simple: find a place in your desired location, read the fine print and reviews to see that it is exactly what you're looking for, and request to book for specific days. Within the next 24 hours, the host will most likely approve your request and you enter the payment. After this, you are able to contact the host and arrange a time to meet. He or she will meet you at the AirBnb with the keys and the place is yours for the duration of your stay! Simple! AirBnb is part of a new trend called the sharing economy, which functions on the concept of mutual respect. The house is yours, but that doesn't mean you can trash it... even if cleaning people come after you move out. Sometimes, it can be pretty difficult to find the exact apartment you're searching for, so I've taken the guess work out. Below are ten gorgeous Italian AirBnb's with positive reviews, right in the center of Rome! Luxury Spanish Steps House with TerraceThis breathtaking 120 square meter apartment is located near the Spanish Steps and has a 30 square meter terrace. Inside, there are two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a fully furnished kitchen and a living room. Outside, there are two sun loungers, a couch, and a table. There is a 3.50 euro per day tourist tax and it is cleaned daily. Quaint Trastevere Apartment with Yellow PatioLocated in Trastevere, this AirBnb is in the ideal spot - near the city center but just over the Tiber river! It has one bed and a sofa bed. There is an 11% weekly discount and 5/5 star reviews. Rustic Trastevere Penthouse with Rooftop ViewsWith three bedrooms and a spacious terrace, this AirBnb is perfect for families and groups. I can't imagine a better way to spend a vacation in Rome lounging around on this terrace at sunset with a bottle of wine and my closest friends. The interior is very Italian - wood beamed ceilings, and bricks visible on parts of the walls. It also has 5/5 star reviews. Classic Italian Campo de Fiori TerraceSeriously, if I could live on a terrace like this, I would be in paradise. Better yet, this apartment is right by Campo di Fiori, so you could easily buy a bunch of fresh food and fiori (flowers) to have handy around the AirBnb. The interior is very rustic and authentically Italian. With one bed, it makes the perfect couple's getaway! 5/5 star ratings. Luxury Trevi Fountain ViewsThis AirBnb is smack dab in the center of Rome. It puts you right into the hustle and bustle of tourist life. I'm sure if you stay up late enough, you're bound to get at least one glimpse of the Trevi Fountain all to yourself. It's rather expensive ($300 per night) but all 52 reviews are positive, which means it's probably worth it. Plus, the host gives you a special welcome package which includes wine, fruit, and flowers. Charming Palatine GardenI can almost see myself sitting right in this garden, reading a book, petting a cat, and sipping wine. Ah... The apartment is fully furnished, even the kitchen, and it only has one bed. It also has both air conditioning and heating, which is rare for Roman apartments. The Palatine hill is right next to the Roman Forum, so it's almost like you're staying right next to the Colosseum. 97 reviews and 5/5 stars. Castel Sant Angelo Apartment with Covered TerraceRome gets pretty hot in the summer time. It's almost impossible to step outside without frying like a tomato. Luckily, this AirBnb has a covered terrace. Kiss that skin damage goodbye! It's located close to Castel Sant Angelo and only a "13 minute walk" from the Vatican. Inside, you'll find a large bedroom, a couch, and a newly renovated kitchen. Spacious and Modern Loft with bikesIf it wasn't for the view out the window, I would have never even guessed that this AirBnb is in Rome! It looks so modern and sleek. There are two bedrooms, two beds, and a sofa bed. If the design hasn't sold you yet, maybe the Jacuzzi will. There is a tram stop nearby that will shuttle you over the Tiber river and directly into the main part of the city center... or you can just ride the bikes provided. Five star reviews. Bright Trastevere ApartmentThis place screams Girls Getaway. It's well lit, pink and white, and has purple dishware. There is one bedroom with one bed and then a couch which folds out into a bed. The location boasts high quality restaurants, art, and entertainment any which way, just five minutes from the doorstep. Best yet, the host will personally welcome you to the lovely Trastevere neighborhood with homemade spaghetti alla carbonara for dinner. She may even be kind enough to share the recipe with you! Romantic Spanish Steps Rooftop HomeThis apartment currently has a special 50% off spring deal. It has a rustic Italian flair, but the furniture is brand new. The kitchen is fully stocked, so you can easily make dinner and sit outside on the balcony to eat it. It has one bedroom and one bed, and the best part is the price! Only $88 per night. On a final note, any type of lodging in Rome will have a 3.50 euro tax per night. It's standard, so don't be too concerned when your host asks you for the payment in cash immediately.

Let's be honest. Italians tend to be very romantic people. They often make extravagant romantic gestures and adore the concept of being in love. La Festa di San Valentino (Saint Valentine’s Day) was present all around the city, from old ladies dressed up entirely in pink to the bouquets of flowers on the side of the road. Unfortunately, though, Italians tend not to have the best breakfast options for dates. Most of the time, people here will take a quick espresso standing up at the bar and then a cornetto (criossant) on the way to work. So, for Valentine's Day, I decided to treat my boyfriend to a not so Italian breakfast: Ladurée. Ladurée is a French bakery and bistro which was founded in Paris in 1862. They sell a variety of high-end sweets and pastries and have since opened shops in London, Miami, Tokyo, and Rome, as well as other big cities around the world. Ladurée was the birthplace of the macaron (different from macaroon). The French macaron derives from the word “ammaccare,” which means to crush in Italian, based on the main ingredient in macarons - almond flour. The macaron is composed of two cake-like coins with a melt-in-your-mouth candy coating. The two coins are then joined together with a creamy sweet filling. Ladurée makes macarons in an almost infinite variety of flavors, from rose to salted caramel to chocolate, raspberry, and pistachio. With such a history of high quality deliciousness, I thought Ladurée would be the perfect place to go for Valentine’s Day. I was even more impressed than I had expected to be. Upon entrance, I was greeted with the sweet smell of pastries even before the friendly host swiftly offered me a table. The interior was sleek, elegant, and adorable - purple plush couches, hints of pink in the white walls, and a pink rose on each table. For Valentine’s day, Ladurée offered many deals, all of which included a complimentary plate of chocolate covered strawberries. My favorite festivity was the hot pink, heart shaped, rose flavored macaron that came atop my ginger flavored drink. For my boyfriend, however, the French toast with raspberry coulis and Chantilly cream could not have been a more perfect meal. With all the pink, I feared that it might have been too "girly" for him, but the perfectly pillowy French toast made him forget all about it. In fact, I don't think the French toast was on his plate but two minutes before it was all gone! In the end, our bill was around fifty euros, which wasn't too bad. For one plate of French toast, five macarons, and two alcoholic beverages at a high end restaurant, I'd say it was quite the treat! If only I could afford this meal every day! Ladurée Roma is located on Via Borgognona, 4c, 00187 Roma, near the Spanish Steps.
