snapshots of my travels
Coogee is this Australian run hipster cafe in smack in the middle of Marseille, France. On our last day in Marseille, I woke up feeling sick. Coogee's coffee was the perfect remedy. It's a little walk uphill from the Castellane metro stop, but totally worth it, considering most other French cafes serve slightly burnt, scorching hot espressos.
Coogee is like a little Australian oasis, complete with brown sofas, hanging plants, and a little patio in the back. My boyfriend picked up a muffin and a smoothie, while I ordered toast with a side salad. Oh, and two coffees. Hey, I couldn't resist!
It wasn't until later that I found out Coogee is the name of a city in Australia, complete with picturesque beaches. I'm not entirely sure if the owner is from Coogee, but everyone working there definitely spoke perfect English. The cappuccino was perfectly foamy, strong - but not too strong, and the perfect pick-me-up to make it to the airport. The espresso was also quite nice - bitter and hot, but not burnt.
Tomatoes and toast pair perfectly, especially for a person who isn't a fan of sugary sweets in the morning. The cheese on top may have been a bit too heavy for my preferences, but it was still very tasty. The chia seeds were a pleasant addition too.
I would have loved to pull out my laptop and relax for hours, and even ordered their salad bar for lunch, but unfortunately the Wi-Fi was broken when we went. Still, I could definitely imagine myself reading and writing here.
The prices were reasonable, especially considering that food in France is never cheap. Head up, restaurants in Marseille all close at ungodly early hours - 7 pm for this one. It was certainly strange coming from Rome, where people sometimes only begin to eat dinner at 10 pm.
For those who don't enjoy coffee, my boyfriend says that the smoothies were "better than Smoothie King." They also have Oreo frappes and Chai tea lattes with almond milk.
